Over 200,000 fans make someone’s day
The Make Someone’s Day sports story of the day is about YOU! OK maybe not you specifically but to the over 200,000 people out there who have donated to Buffalo Bills Safety Damar Hamlin’s gofundme page to provide toys for children in need. For those that don’t know, Damar Hamlin was hit in a football game Monday, January 2 at just the right millisecond that his heart stopped. He’s been in the U of Cincinnati Medical Center ER since then, and thankfully is starting to recover. Prior to his on field accident, there was less than $3000 in his account. Since then, over seven million dollars have poured in from fans, friends, players, owners, and teams. “As I embark on my journey to the NFL, I will never forget where I come from and I am committed to using my platform to positively impact the community that raised me,” Hamlin wrote on the GoFundMe Page. “I created The Chasing M’s Foundation as a vehicle that will allow me to deliver that impact, and the first program is the 2020 Community Toy Drive.” What a remarkable way to pay tribute to an athlete while helping many others in a cause he cares about.
